The List of Australia’s wealthiest 250 people has shown there 131 billionaires in Australia with an average wealth of $2.08 billion. Thirty women were on the list including Australia’s richest person, Gina Rinehart, the chair of Hancock Prospecting with $32.64billion in her coffers.
The List compiled by The Australian newspaper included the final figures calculated in late February. Ms Rinehart was followed by Fortesecue Metals Group chairman Andrew Forrest with a fortune worth $31.77 billion up from 29.61 billion last year. In 2021, Ms Rinehart was worth $36.28 billion- a fall of $3.64 billion on last year.
The first Greek-Australian to appear on the list was Nick Politis at number 52 , the owner of WFM Motors and director of AP Eagers with a fortune of $2.18 billion. He has improved on last year’s figure by $60 million.
The next Greek-Australian on The List, Theo Karedis and family with $1.14 billion came in at 115 on The List. Mr Karedis is the founder of Theo’s Liquor and the Arkadia Property Group.
At number 118 is Nicholas Paspaley and Family, at $1.09 billion. Mr Paspaley is the Executive Chairman of the Paspaley Group of Companies. The group has a pearl retail business, an aviation and marine services division, pastoral and tourism holdings, and a property portfolio.
The founder chairman and CEO of Arrotex Pharmaceuticals, Dennis Bastas with $980 million is ranked number 133.
Immediately behind Mr Bastas is Terry Tzaneros (ranked 134), the co-owner of ACFS Logistics and AGS World Transport with $972 million. He is followed by Arthur Tzaneros (135), also co-owner ACFS Logistics and AGS World Transport also on $972 million.
At number 150 on the list, is Nick Andrianakos and family who have $896 million. Mr Andrianakos is the founder of Milemaker Petroleum and Nikos Property.
Con Makris, the chairman of Makris Group, and his family with $835million are 156 on the list.
The founder of Consolidated Travel, Spyros Alysandratos is rated 165 with $769 million.
Harry Stamoulis and family, Principal of Stamoulis Property Group, come in at 168 with $752 million in earnings.
Coming in at 190 is Kerry Harmanis. The value of the founder of Jubilee Mines was reported to be $670 million.
