With another, much bigger and more expensive sailing yacht under construction at the Royal Huisman Shipyard in Amsterdam, Istros will be the Murdoch family’s secondary yacht or Lachlan Murdoch’s own personal cruise-home.

The 68-year-old boat, has five staterooms that can accommodate up to 10 guests, state of the art satellite TV technology as well as a fully stocked private bar and lounge area on the top deck.

The superyacht was built by Greece’s long-standing shipping tycoon family Pappadakis, which was then the largest yacht ever to be built in The Netherlands.

As Cecile Gauert wrote in her article in the Boat International, the post-war reconstruction had rewarded enterprising Greek shipowners, such as Aristotle Onassis and Stavros Niarchos, whose massive fleets allowed them to create two of the world’s most iconic yachts, Christina O and Atlantis.
