It was most embarrassing for Members of the House of Representatives, the President of the Republic and the Greek Cypriot nation to hear Zelenskiy addressing them last night and talking about his war problems of Russian occupation, killings, rapes, refugees and war crimes.
He was pleading for support from the small island of Cyprus to send him weapons and help Ukraine enter the EU and yet – he did not even mention once Turkey’s criminal invasion of Cyprus!
Did he forget that his military friend Turkey occupies Cyprus? Did he not know that Greeks experienced the same war barbarities committed Turkey on the island?
Equally, why did he depart the moment the Speaker of the House of Representatives started to speak about Turkey’s crimes against the people of Cyprus? Why such arrogance?
Wrongly, the Foreign Minister has dignified Zelenskyy’s position by inviting him to speak, and this man instead has infuriated the people of Cyprus. Arrogantly, he played politics in our Vouli (House of Representatives)!
It is proper to replace the Foreign Minister for such a blunder before he makes more damages to the cause of Cyprus!
At the same time, we can only thank Annita Demetriou (the Speaker of the House of Representatives) for speaking out and making us proud that Cyprus is a nation of principles and not a puppet nation for the convenience of others.
