One of Greece’s top mountaineers who had successfully climbed many of the world’s toughest peaks, was reported to have died during a descent down a mountain in Nepal.
The team that accompanied the climber reported that Antonis Sykaris, 59, died on the climb down from the peak of Mount Dhaulagiri, the world’s seventh-highest mountain.

It is believed Mr Sykaris was at an altitude of 7,400m during his descent down the Himalayan mountain when he died from a combination of physical and mental exhaustion at 4am (Nepalese time).
On Monday, Mr Sykaris had reached the mountain’s summit at 8,167 metres and had announced his achievement on social media.
