PAOK’s fantastic Europa Conference League campaign has officially concluded after Olympique du Marseille’s successful away journey, eliminating them at the quarter-finals stage.

The double-headed eagle of the north’s best ever European campaign came to a swift end on Friday morning (AEST), losing 0-1 in Thessaloniki (and 3-1 in the overall tie) with playmaker Dimitri Payet again proving the difference.

The veteran midfielder found the back of the net from close range, thanks to a ball across goal by teammate Matteo Guendouzi (34′) and, despite a number of chances, PAOK was unable to fight their way back into the match and tie.

Panathinaikos preparing for fierce rivalry clash against Olympiacos to continue their fight for third

Panathinaikos is set to host the derby of the “eternal enemies” of Greek football in a daunting match against Olympiacos which could drastically impede their European ambitions.

The “Trifylli” club finds itself locked in a very competitive battle for third, making it all the more critical they secure a much-desired home victory on Monday morning (AEST) against their bitter rivals in the fifth round of the Greek Super League play-offs.

The Piraeus giants will be extremely motivated to help extend their arch-enemy’s drought in European competitions (not featuring since 2017/18) by defeating them in their own backyard.

Aris and PAOK are preparing for their own derby, adding further anticipation for a blockbuster weekend of football, with the yellow-blacks looking to add to PAOK’s woes after they failed to progress in Europe.

AEK hopes to get their first win of the play-offs when they travel to play a tough Giannina side on Tuesday morning, which has recorded three consecutive draws.

Apollon Smyrnis hosts Volos on Saturday morning in the fourth round of the play-outs, with momentum on their side after winning their last two games and going within two points of second-last Lamia.

Panetolikos faces Asteras Tripolis at home on Sunday morning, with the Agrinio club looking to end their three-match losing streak (all against sides lower placed than them).

Atromitos plays OFI in Athens and the Peristeriotes will be aiming to keep their unbeaten run in the play-outs going.

Lamia comperes at home against Ionikos on Monday morning, with the Fthiotida side needing a win to maintain the gap between themselves and the Light Brigade and avoid the straight drop to the second division.
