A first group of one child refugees from Ukraine with ages ranging from 10 months to 17 years arrived in Athens on Holy Saturday from the Ukrainian city of Slavutych.
According to an announcement from the Migration and Asylum Ministry, the children were joined by three adults acting as chaperones.
They were met by a police convoy at the Promachonas border crossing and brought to Athens.
This is expected to be the first of many future missions, as part of a protocol of collaboration between Greece with Ukraine to host and protect unaccompanied children of war.
It has been reported that the contribution of an Odessa-based businessman, Pantelis Boubouras, was the catalyst to ensure the safe passage of the unaccompanied minors to Greece.
The children are currently staying in facilities of “The Home Project”, and are additionally supported by the International Migration for Organization, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees and the NGO Metadrasi.
