One of the most prominent sports and lifestyle writers the Greek community in the diaspora has seen, soccer coach Manos Milios, has passed away.

Milios, died on Thursday with COVID-19 but he had underlying health conditions, his wife, Anastasia, told Neos Kosmos.

Ms Anastasia Miliou was in Greece when she found out, settling family affairs.

“It was unexpected,” she said.

“That’s why I was in Greece, dealing with some family issues and unfortunately this great loss found me here.”

“His wish was to rest in peace in Greece, and we will respect that,” she added, explaining that she has cancelled her return and will remain in Greece.

As per the deceased’s wishes his remains will be transported to Athens where they have a family grave at the 1st Athens Cemetery, following a strictly close family ‘trisagio’ liturgy in Australia.

According to information, Mr Milios wanted to be cremated and to have his ashes scattered in the motherland.

Manos Milos, spent the majority of his journalistic career at Neos Kosmos, where he worked for over three decades as a sports and lifestyle writer.

He loved writing about the city’s bustling night life having met and interviewed all the top Greek celebrities and artists -mainly singers- visiting Down Under.

He started his journey at Athlitiki Iho and Nea Patrida before joining the Neos Kosmos team where he also met his wife Anastasia, as a colleague.

Aside from a successful journalist he was also celebrated as a soccer coach.

Before migrating to Melbourne, he had played soccer at the Athinaikos Club.

The Neos Kosmos family extend our sympathy and condolences to his beloved wife and his beautiful children.
