Last Sunday, 5 June, the Lemnian Community Of Victoria gathered in their Springvale property to decide the fate of its Middle Park property.
The Committee had received an offer for the headquarters located on 1 Armstrong Street and required the majority of the active financial members of the Lemnian Community to be in attendance in order for a decision to be made.
Due to lack of attendance, in spite of the seriousness of the matter, the meeting could not take place.
Meanwhile, the decision of the Committee to now allow entrance to a person that , according to them, did not fulfil the requirements in order to attend, caused tensions.
The situation was said to be so heated that the police needed to be called in order to reinstate order and avoid further altercations.
A deeply disappointed Filippos Diamataris, President of the Lemnian Community Of Victoria, told Neos Kosmos that it was something he did not expect, given that the sole reason for holding the meeting was to decide the sale, or not, of the Middle Park property.
“My team and I, we work tirelessly, non-stop and for-free to ensure the continuation and evolution of the Community. Situations like this do not honour our Community. In contrary, they jeopardise its future.”
“We have clarified that our goal is to reconnect with our younger members that have lost touch with the community and attract the youth. We want to create an environment that is welcoming, a place they want to come to. We had an offer and we decided to bring it in front of the members, put it on the table. Unfortunately, it was not even touched [up]on,” he said stressing that it is the first time in the history of the Lemnian Community that procedures have been made so transparent. “Such decisions should be made only by the Active Financial Members Committee,” he noted.
Following the incident on Sunday, the committee will reconvene to discuss a new course of action.
“If I am the problem, then, for the sake of the Lemnian Community, I should quit…”he added.
Aside from Mr Diamataris, several members contacted Neos Kosmos to express their distress in regards to the turn of events at the club rooms and their frustration towards “certain troublemakers” who do not respect the protocol and democratic procedures.
While the Lemnian Community has announced an afternoon of tea at the Springvale clubrooms on 26 June, some members are pushing for clarification before “having fun”.
“The sequence of events that occurred should not have been allowed to happen,” another member wrote on Facebook.
“This needs to be addressed firstly before ‘happy things can be discussed’ over tea and coffee. Will everyone really be welcome?”
