The Hellenic Museum is launching another series of enriching, educational and unique school holiday workshops for the winter season where kids will be challenged and entertained by hands-on activities that wrestle with historical concepts in fun, creative and approachable ways.
Ancient Board Games, Strategy & The Underworld on Sunday
A unique masterclass in ancient games and battle strategy. Through hands-on, play-based discovery, kids will learn the ancient Greek game Petia, Chinese Go and ancient Egyptian Senet. Through playing as well as inventing their own labyrinth escape, they will discover how and why games – one of the earliest forms of social connection – were played across many ancient societies.

Pigments of the Past on Thursday 7 July at 11 am
This popular workshop returns for winter! How did the ancients colour their worlds before the invention of modern paints? Kids will explore painted artefacts at the Hellenic Museum and discover how the ancient Greeks ground, mixed and distilled pigments from natural materials like saffron, lapis lazuli and sandstone. Using touch, smell and observation, participants will become familiar with these ingredients and their properties, and experiment with mixing their own egg tempera paints just like those used to paint murals in Mycenaean Greece.
