Hospitality staff to be hired in 15 venues across Sydney will be offered a $5000 sign-on bonus as part of a financial incentive offered by a Greek-owned company.

The Sydney Restaurant Group, run by the Drakopoulos family has announced the generous package in a bid to staff its venues sufficiently for the summer season.

“A lot of companies are doing $1000 to $2000 sign-on bonuses, but we are willing to get the best, and we’re willing to pay,” co-owner of the group and son of its founder Bill Drakopoulos, Daniel, told the Australian Financial Review.

Founded in 2000, the group owns venues including from high-end restaurants to CBD cafes.

Currently, the group has about 200 staff on its payroll, reportedly needing up to an extra 200 to ensure venues operate at full capacity during the upcoming months.

Mr Drakopoulos said the bonus will be available to full-timers willing to work on a regular shift roster for six months.

Similar initiatives are being undertaken by hospitality businesses across the country, in an effort to overcome staff shortages amidst price and wage increases.
