The Holy Synod of the Greek Orthodox Church of Greece has sent a circular to all the priests under its jurisdiction that expresses its opposition to abortion.
According to press release issued on Thursday, the circular, which contains its position on “protecting human life and discouraging abortions”, instructs priest to read the document during services that mark the birth of the Virgin Mary on 8 September.
Kathimerini reported that the synod of bishops which was convened by Archbishop Ieronymos II of Athens and All Greece, met on Wednesday and Thursday.
