Two earthquakes with magnitude 5.3 and 4.7 rocked the eastern Aegean Sea island of Samos on Wednesday (Greece time) but no injuries to people or damage to structures were reported, Greek authorities said.
The larger quake struck at 1.10pm, about 14 minutes after the first, the Athens Geodynamic Institute announced.
Both had their epicentres in the sea 22 kilometres (14 miles) southwest of Samos, ANA-MPA reported.
The Fire Service and local authorities on Samos said they received no reports of injuries or damage.
The Samos earthquakes have reportedly occurred hours after a magnitude of 4.3 tremor shook Lefkada island in the Ionian Sea early on Tuesday.
According to the National Observatory of Athens (NOA), the quake at 6.49am struck at a focal depth of 16.5 kilometres near the village of Vasiliki.
Earlier, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported that the earthquake hit in the same spot at a very shallow depth of two kilometres and had a magnitude of 5.2 on the Richter scale.
In 2020, a stronger quake struck Samos and the nearby Turkish coast, killing two high school students on the island and at least 75 people in Turkey, where more than 1,000 were injured.
In 1999, a major earthquake that hit the Athenian capital killed 143 people.
