Neither Aris nor PAOK could penetrate the other’s defences in a fiery first Thessaloniki derby this season, paving the way for Panathinaikos to go outright first after recording a third straight win.

Aris played out a 0-0 home draw the Double-headed eagle of the North on Monday morning (AEST), though it was filled with plenty of tension as each side copped a red in the dying moments of the contest.

The yellow-blacks had the best opportunity to break the deadlock when Andre Gray stepped up to the penalty spot, only for goalkeeper Dominik Kotarski to dive to his left and successfully catch it (53′).

Tempers flared near the end of the match, with Aris substitute Bryan Dabo and PAOK midfielder Omar El Kaddouri each being sent off (90+8′) in a moment which was followed by both teams’ benches going onto the field and causing a massive delay.

AEK defeated Giannina 2-0 to avenge last week’s terrible upset and secure their first home win of the season.

Enosi went ahead, thanks to an excellent half-volley effort by midfielder Orbelin Pineda from the edge of the box which sailed into the left side of the goal (39′).

Winger Nordin Amrabat sealed the victory after finishing the ball into the top left following some great composure in the box (87′).

OFI earned a 0-1 away success over Volos to get their first win this term, thanks to a header by centre half Apostolos Diamantis from a corner set-piece (5′).

The Cretans managed to protect their lead even after a second yellow send-off from wing back Eric Larsson (77′).

Atromitos came from behind to bag a point in a 1-1 home draw against Panetolikos.

Striker Nikos Karelis put the Agrinio side in front with a good strike in the box (33′) before Atromitos forward Dorin Rotariu’s strike cancelled it out (50′), as neither club could find a winner.

Panathinaikos downed Levadiakos 1-0 at home on Sunday morning to extend their perfect start to their league campaign.

The “Trifylli” took an early lead through winger Benjamin Verbic, who headed in teammate Aitor Cantalapiedra’s free kick into an empty net (3′) to get a debut goal in his first start for the club.

The single goal was enough for the Greens to triumph over Levadiakos, who were dealt a late blow with centre back Vinicius sent off for a second yellow at the death (90+2′).

Olympiacos secured a 3-1 home victory over Ionikos to make up for a poor league draw last weekend.

Captain Andreas Bouchalakis opened the scoring for the Piraeus club after controlling the ball from a corner and guiding it low into the left side of the goal (17′).

Midfielder Pep Biel doubled their lead after polishing off a quick attack, burying the ball into the top right (45′), though a magnificent free kick from strike into the top right corner from Javier Mendoza (49′) brought the Nikaia side back into the contest.

Striker Youssef El Arabi sealed the three points after hitting his penalty into the bottom left (90+5′).

Asteras Tripolis recorded a goalless away draw against Lamia, making it three straight stalemates to open their league campaign.
