Famous British chef Jamie Oliver is in Thessaloniki for a television production and met with Thessaloniki Mayor Constantine Zervas to discuss the city’s gastronomy.

Zervas said Thessaloniki is included in UNESCO’s Network of Creative Cities, which is providing a new impetus for the city’s tourism development and its promotion abroad, and offered the famous chef two bottles of wine from the municipality’s urban vineyard.

Jamie Oliver MBE OSI is the English chef, restaurateur and cookbook author known for his cool and casual approach to cuisine. He has fronted numerous television shows and opened many restaurants.

His series The Naked Chef premiered in 1999 to global acclaim. In 2005, he opened a campaign, Feed Me Better, to introduce schoolchildren to healthier foods, which was later backed by the government. He was the owner of a restaurant chain, Jamie Oliver Restaurant Group, which opened its first restaurant, Jamie’s Italian, in Oxford in 2008. The chain went into administration in May 2019.
