Oakleigh have capped off a fantastic couple of weeks with a phenomenal victory over South Melbourne, thrashing them to secure the 2022 championship.

The Cannons dominated the premiers in the Grand Final on Sunday evening, winning convincingly 5-0 to officially be crowned champions.

Oakleigh set the tone of the match from the beginning, scoring inside the first minute via Aryn Williams, who subsequently netted his second early into the second half (47′) to double their advantage.
Chris Lucas finished the ball (78′) to add to their opponent’s misery before Joe Guest converted his spot-kick (84′) to take the game well beyond reach.

Wade Dekker added a final goal (90+5′) in the dying moments of the contest to seal a stunning, title-winning victory for the Cannons.

An extra time winner from Rhys Cooper (98′) helped Newcastle Olympic down Charlestown Azzuri away on Saturday afternoon to keep their championship hopes alive.

The Hamilton-based side will now move on for their next do-or-die final next weekend.

QLD

Olympic FC fell just short of the championship, succumbing to a 2-0 defeat in the Grand Final on Saturday evening at the hands of Gold Coast Knights.

The Hellenic Queensland outfit fought hard to make it to the championship decider, though the Knights proved too tough to beat with goals from Max Brown (22′) and Pasquale De Vita (87′) enough to secure them of the win and the title.

WA

Floreat Athena squandered a two-nil lead to concede the championship to Perth RedStar on Saturday night in what proved to be a thrilling, unpredictable Grand Final.

The premiers went into the break two goals ahead, thanks to efforts from Bayley Brown-Montgomery (21′) and Arnold Phillip (44′).

The Stars sprung to life with less than 20 minutes of play left as Ryan Lowry (71′) and Daryl Nicol (75′) brought them back to level terms.

Nicol managed to bag a second goal in the 90+3rd minute to complete a magnificent turnaround, making Peth RedStar the 2022 WA NPL champions to deliver a crushing blow for what was otherwise a wonderful season for Floreat Athena.

Canberra Olympic’s play-off ambitions were heartbreakingly slashed after losing 2-1 away to Gungahlin on Sunday afternoon in the 21st and final round.

The result saw the visitors finish fifth on 26 points for the campaign, just one short of O’Connor Knights who took their place in fourth.
