Once again, congratulations to all Lefkadians, friends and their families in Victoria, on achieving this milestone anniversary. It is a fabulous achievement.

For a club to survive 80 years requires huge commitments from all its members, to keep working hard to stay relevant. It also requires us to adapt for each generation – whilst respecting the traditions of past generations. It can be a fine balancing act, one which we as a committee strive to achieve.

In the last three years our revitalised Committee, has been able to rejuvenate the Brotherhood, by increasing membership from 100 members to almost 400. We have remained relevant to our parents and grandparents by moving their functions, at their request, to lunchtime.

We listened to the next generation and started having live Greek music events which have been a success. And to mix up the functions, we had a very successful trivia night and are looking to offer more variety for our members, especially the youth.

But we still have a lot of work to do. Our goal as a Committee is to continue to grow our membership levels, and more importantly, encourage our younger members to attend functions.

During the 1980s and 1990s there were very successful Youth Committees and we would like to instigate that once more. Plans are underway to establish a youth group, to organise functions that are meaningful to them. While Greek music is in our blood, functions for our younger members can be anything from gatherings at other clubs, weekends away, movie nights or other social celebration appropriate to them.

Our work to renew our Lefkaditiko Spiti continues and we are waiting to hear on grant applications so we can improve our foyer, the kitchen and to paint the entire building.

We hope to see you at one of our functions soon.

Until then,

HRONIA POLLA

The Executive Committee
