According to the latest information regarding the ongoing case of rape and sexual exploitation of a 12-year-old girl in Athens, Greece, the 38-year-old mother of the victim has been placed into custody on Wednesday afternoon (Greece time).

Evidence has reportedly emerged during the police investigation linking her to the sexual abuse and exploitation of her own daughter.

The woman, whose identity has not been released to protect her 12-year-old daughter and seven other children is being held at the General Police Directorate of Attica on the charge of aggrevated pimping, state-run news agency AMNA reported.

The 53-year-old shopkeeper Ilias Mihos (also known as Elias Michos), who is accused of repeatedly raping and forcing the child into prostitution, and his “client” 42-year-old Giannis Sofianidis who allegedly repeatedly paid to rape the girl have been taken to jail after testifying before an investigative magistrate on Tuesday.

The two men reportedly denied raping the child but admitted having “sexual relations”.

Mihos, who apart from the rape and sexually exploiting the minor for money, is also facing charges of human trafficking and illegal weapons possession as well as money laundering. According to the case file, he allegedly raped the girl several times between April and August and also arranged for 213 men, whom he met online, to sexually abuse her.

The girl has already identified 10 men that that raped her and is in the process of identifying six more.
