A 33-year-old man is expected to appear before a prosecutor on Monday after being arrested for alleged involvement in the case of the 12-year-old girl sexually abused in Kolonos, Athens.

The man is accused of repeatedly having sex with a minor for a fee.

According to reports, he contacted the child victim through a chat application and met with her at least twice in the area of Sepolia.

This is the third man arrested for the case that has shocked Greece, following charges laid against 52-year-old shopkeeper Ilias Michos, and Ioannis Sofianidis, 42, who both confessed that they had had sexual relations with the child.

Sofianidis is said to have denied raping the girl, and Michos exercised his right to remain silent on charges of pimping and raping, when they appeared before the prosecutor.

The girl’s 37-year-old mother will also face an examining magistrate on Thursday after being charged with pimping.

On Saturday, a protest march took place outside the shop of the 52-year-old accused with demonstrators writing slogans and throwing paint at the facade of the supermarket.

A van used by the shop was also damaged and police said they responded by firing teargas after Molotov cocktails were thrown at them.
