The Hellenic RSL Melbourne, commemorated OXI Day on Friday 28 October, with dignitaries, students and the general public at the Australian Hellenic Memorial and the Melbourne Shrine of Remembrance.
Proceedings began a Trisagio service conducted by his Grace Bishop Kyriakos, followed by a speech of the Greek Consul General, Emmanuel Kakavelakis.
Mr Kakavelakis spoke about that period in 1940 during world war two in Greece, and the sacrifice of the Greek armed forces, and the civilians, that gave their lives to defend Greek soil.


In his speech he also mentioned the importance of the young generation to never forget the past events and to continue commemorate OXI Day.
Speaking on behalf of the Hellenic RSL, past president Steve (Anastasios) Kyritsis OAM wished to thank Bishop Kyriakos, Consul General Kakavelakis, and the 40 Greek & Australian organisations and students that laid wreaths during the commemoration events.
