The Greek Australian Cultural League (GACL) literary awards were announced last Sunday on the last day of the ‘Lost Homelands’ exhibition.

Commemorating the centennial of the Asia Minor Catastrophe and dedicated to all people’s loss of homeland and their search for a new existence, the event was attended by Greek Australian community members and friends of the literary arts.

In a packed room at Steps Gallery on Lygon St., Carlton, president of GACL Cathy Alexopoulos OAM announced the winners of the bilingual competition for 2022 as selected by the panel of judges consisting of coordinator Ms Alexopoulos and GACL members Dr Angela Evangelinou-Yiannakis (Academic – ACU, UWA; Honorary Research Fellow – UWA), Konstantinos Kalymnios (Lawyer, Writer, Columnist) and Maria Papageorgiou-Foroudi (Lawyer, Author, Editor).

The poetry and short story winners in both Greek and English received a monetary award while their submissions were published in the 68th edition of the Antipodes periodical. The rest of the contestants received an acknowledgement and were gifted books.
