Greek medical experts have arrived in Melbourne to take part in the initial proceedings of a global academic cooperation, at the University of Melbourne on Thursday, and the official launch of the Hellenic Medical Diaspora World Congress 2022.

A group of delegates from the Hellenic Medical Society of Australia and Hellenic Diaspora World Congress will meet at 9.30am on Thursday at Alan Gilbert Building of the University, with representatives from the University of Melbourne’s faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences to discuss opportunities of global exchanges between medical students, physicians and healthcare workers of Hellenic origin.

Participating in this meeting are Prof Marinis Pirpiris, Bill Papastergiadis OAM, George Patoulis, Marios Themistocleous, Professor Georgios Antonakis, Jorge Menidis, Vicky Kyritsis, Mena Giannelis, Professor Gerasimos Siasos, Dr Konstantinos Pantos, Antonios Polydorou, Government Officials, University of Melbourne Representatives.

The discussions will conclude with the signing of an agreement to develop exchange programs and visitations for undergraduate and postgraduate students and postdocs, post-graduate continual professional development programs and research collaborations.

Apart from all the lectures by leading world experts in medicine to address the new advances in research and treatments, a large part of the conference will be dedicated to Greek Australian community service providers such as PRONIA, Fronditha Care and Agapi, their role in the community, their interactions and needs.

The Hellenic Medical Diaspora World Congress 2022, which is organised by the Hellenic Medical Society of Australia and the Global Doctors’ Hippocratic Institute will end on Saturday 19 November, with a ball at the Grand Hyatt, with the intention to raise funds for PRONIA and Fronditha Care.
