The first summer school for medical students will take place on the island of Kos in an announcement this week.

The project is a joint cooperation between the Governor of Attica, President of Athens Medical Association and President of the Global Hippocratic Doctors Institute, Dr. George Patoulis with members from the University of Thessaly, the European University of Nicosia, Cyprus and the international foundation of Kos.

The summer school will be a one week program for Greek and foreign students from medical faculties worldwide titled “Hippocratic values and medicine” between October 16 and October 21 2023, when the top graduate medical students from 25 countries will proclaim the Hippocratic Oath.

The first and second day of the school will be dedicated to the Hippocratic Botanical Gardens. Students will have the opportunity to study the 235 different plants-herbs growing in the Botanical Gardens of the international foundation of Kos and be familiar with the Hippocratic plants and herbs and the preparation of medications from 2,500 years ago.

During the third day students will visit the islands of Kalymnos and Patmos.

The fourth day will be the so-called Carrier Day, when students will have the opportunity to meet with professors from different universities and specialties. The aim of the day is to discuss with them details for each specialty in order to get the basics for their future carrier decisions.

During the fifth day, the students will be able to participate at a one-day symposium organised by Greek and foreign Universities.

On the final day of the program all students will have the opportunity to join the “Hippocratic Oath Ceremony”.

Support has been sought from the University of Melbourne together with the co-operation of the President of the Greek Community of Melbourne, Mr. Bill Papastergiadis, and the President of Hellenic Medical Society of Australia, Pr. Marinis Pirpiris, in order to prepare a group of medical students to participate in the summer school. It is also expected to have the participation of the top graduate from the University of Melbourne for the Hippocratic Oath.
