A number of students rehearsing on the stage of the central hall of the Municipal Theatre of Piraeus have been injured following a collapse of a part of the stage on Monday (Greece time).

The number of injured remains undisclosed, however, according to state broadcaster ERT, several students rehearsing at the time have been seriously hurt.

The accident occurred after the producer decided to change the props on stage without warning anyone beforehand.

Iosif Vourakis, head of the Youth Culture and Sports Organization (OPAN) of the Municipality of Piraeus, stated that “changes to the stage were made without even the knowledge of the theatre technicians themselves”.

The statement concluded with the manager saying that “responsibilities will be sought for what happened”, followed by an apology to both parents and students.
