A diverse group of publishers, journalists and communications professionals gathered on Sunday, 11 December at Melbourne’s Greek Consulate for an event honouring Hellenic media in Melbourne.
The invitation was extended on the occasion of the feast day of St Menas the Kallikelados, patron saint of the journalists celebrated annually on 10 December.
“It is our way of saying thank you to the Greek Australian media representing our community here,” Consul General Emmanuel Kakavelakis said During a brief address, Mr Kakavelakis made particular mention to the COVID-19 news coverage by community press, praising its consistency amidst challenging times and expressing the view that it “was of higher standards compared to mainstream Australian news coverage”.
Attendees included representatives from Neos Kosmos, SBS Greek, ERT, Ta Nea, The Greek Herald and 3XY as well as media team members of community organisations like Fronditha.
