A year of hard work has come to its end for about 65,000 students in New South Wales who received their much-anticipated HSC results on Thursday.

But for the 126 students who claimed the top spot for individual subjects, celebrations started from Wednesday in an official NSW Education ceremony, in the presence of Premier Dominic Perrottet who appeared via video link, Education Minister Sarah Mitchell and Education Secretary Georgina Harrisson.

“These young people have shown what can be achieved when you combine ability and passion with commitment – qualities that will prove invaluable throughout their careers and lives,” NSW Premier Perrottet said.

Among those acknowledged for their achievements were at least three graduates of Greek descent, with one of them obtaining a dual first place.

Anargyros Efthymiou Kallos achieved First in Course for Modern Greek Continuers and Modern Greek Extension.

The Homebush Boys High School student studied with the Secondary College of Languages, Ashfield Boys Campus and was one of only nine first in course winners in more than one subject.

Dozens of Greek Australians also made it to the All Round Achievers and Top Achievers merit lists.

All Round Achievers are students who have achieved results in the highest band possible for at least 10 units of HSC courses.

The Top Achievers list includes the names of those who achieved one of the top places and a result in the highest band possible in one or more HSC courses.
