Victoria’s Andrews Government has thrown more support behind a festival highlighting the skills and achievements of young Victorians.

This year, Victorian Youth Fest 2023 will be a month-long celebration across the state shining the spotlight on the contributions of young people in their communities.

Minister for Youth Natalie Suleyman announced the $220,000 in funding intended to support up to 110 youth-led events, designed for and by the state’s youth.

Minister Suleyman says the government “are proud to support youth-led events that promote the talents of young Victorians,” calling them “integral to building a sense of community and amplifying the voices of young people.”

Grants of $2,000 have been made available for youth sector organisations, local governments and schools to develop events in partnership with Victorians aged between 12 and 25 years.

Funding for Youth Fest, which is slated for September, will support adolescents in the organisation and delivery of events and showcase their skills, at the same time encouraging them to share ideas, build connections and expand their networks.

“Victorian Youth Fest provides young people from across our state with unique opportunities to bring their ideas to life and lead positive change, in partnership their peers and youth-led organisations,” Minister Suleyman says.

Last year, the Victorian Youth Fest funded 110 arts, sporting and recreational activities and community festivals.

Previous grant recipients include Hume Central Secondary College, Nillumbik Shire Council, Greater Dandenong City Council, the Echuca Moama Arts Initiative and the Towong Shire Council.

Applications for funding are open until 10 March. To apply and find out more about the grant program visit youthcentral.vic.gov.au/youth-fest.
