South Melbourne has triumphed over Moreland City 2-1 in the opening first division game of the NPL Victoria Men’s 2023 season.
Played out at the winning side’s home ground, Lakeside Stadium, the match kicked off just after 7.30pm on Thursday, 16 February.
It began with a somewhat slow yellow-tinted first half.
Defenders Michael Tzoutzidis and Bradley Norton from Moreland City and South Melbourne respectively received yellow cards (30′) followed by Moreland City striker Apai Ukuno (41′).
But soon after striker James Hooper secured the first goal of the season for Moreland City in stoppage time (45+2′).
Just after half time South Melbourne equalised the score when striker Alan Webb put one in the net (50′) with an assist from Ajak Riak.
And midfielder Patrick Langlois scored the team’s second and final goal (66′) to win the match for the blue and white.
