‘Her Voice, Greek Women and their Friends’ celebrates 42 women’s stories

As part of International Women’s Day celebrations and in recognition of Cultural Diversity Week, Suzy Bourdamis and Maria Dimopoulos AM in collaboration with the Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Centre hold a special fundraiser book launch in Geelong for Varvara Athanasiou-Ioannou’s inspirational book, Her Voice, Greek Women and their Friends.

“This book celebrates 42 women’s stories, their achievements, diverse voices and intersectionality, the very theme of this year’s International Women’s Day of #EmbraceEquity. Three dynamic women, at the helm of driving cultural change, Professor Vasso Apostolopoulos, Maria Dimopoulos and Varvara Athanasiou- Ioannou will inspire the audience with their stories. We are thrilled to have Geelong MP Christne Cousens attend,” said organiser, Suzy Bourdamis.
The heroines in the book talk about overcoming gender based challenges, intersectional representation, their tenacious attitude to work and life and the importance of their heritage and family.

“This collection of stories features relatable role models, whose strength and resilience will inspire many generations of future Greek women and their friends to come, and will also instigate dialogue among Families, Boards and Community organisations.”

“They deserve a spot at any decision making table as they are strong, resilient, well educated and will bring a different perspective which will benefit any organisation to be more profitable and responsive to our multicultural society’s needs,” Ms Athanasiou-Ioannou told Neos Kosmos.

The women featured in her book, from all walks of life, are academics, educators, entrepreneurs, writers, municipal counsellors, journalists, lawyers, scientists, politicians and more.

Selected with a diversity lens in mind, the women featured present an intersectionality of age, class, marital status, sexuality, faith, disability and race, representing different professional and business backgrounds. Attendees will have the opportunity to purchase a signed copy of the book.
