South Melbourne FC secured its third win in a row on Monday night as the ‘blue and white’ defeated Melbourne Knights 2-1 at Lakeside Stadium in the original Melbourne derby.
The victorious performance, which took place in front of approximately 2,800 spectators delivers the historic team to an away bout against Dandenong Thunder on Saturday 11 March.
South’s first goal came in the 7th minute as Marco Jankovic put through a long throw from Max Mikkola.
The game’s second goal, which made for a double header finish came off the top of Patrick Langlois who scored a brace in the 47th minute, returning a save right back into the net as the ball left the hands of Knights keeper Chris Oldfield.

South Melbourne’s victory delivered the club to the top of the NPL’s 2023 season ladder, with nine points ahead of Avondale FC and Oakleigh Cannons respectively in second and third positions.
They are the first and only team in the competition to start the season with three consecutive wins.
