The renowned Theater of Lycabettus, perched atop a hill that offers breathtaking views of the Greek capital, is set to reopen its doors this summer after undergoing extensive upgrades, according to Attica Regional Governor Giorgos Patoulis in a recent statement to Athens-Macedonian News Agency (AMNA).
Having previously hosted a wide array of Greek and international music performances, the historic theater has been closed to the public for 15 years. However, a recent agreement between the region, the Ministry of Culture, and the Municipality of Athens, responsible for executing the works, has paved the way for a much-anticipated revival.
With a budget of 3.9 million euros, ($AUD 6.3 million) provided by the Region of Attica, the ambitious project aims to transform the theater into a modern cultural venue. Upgrades will encompass the hill and its facilities, including the replacement of seats, structural support, and installation of new canteen, lighting, fire, and communications systems.
Patoulis has expressed his unwavering determination to ensure that the theater is ready for use by August 30th at the latest, in time for a grand festival scheduled for September. As anticipation builds, the reopening of Lycabettus Theater promises to be a momentous occasion, marking a significant milestone in the cultural landscape of Athens. [AMNA]
