In a momentous event, the 2nd Cultural Development Agreement for the Protection and Promotion of the Medieval City of Rhodes was signed last Friday at the prestigious Town Hall of Rhodes, marking a significant milestone after thirty-nine (39) years.
The agreement, initially set for a period of 10 years with the possibility of extension, comes with an estimated budget of 63,576,244.30 euros,($AUD 103,662,019) including 24 per cent VAT (GST), allocated for projects, studies, services, and supplies.
The overarching aims of this new agreement are multi-fold, reflecting a collaborative effort to foster a strong and enduring partnership among the contracting parties. These goals include facilitating accelerated execution procedures for the described studies, projects, actions, and services, defining a unified and coherent action framework with global and individual goals, determining the means and methods for implementation, allocating necessary financial resources for the region’s development trajectory, ensuring the maintenance, protection, and promotion of the UNESCO World Heritage monument, and utilising modern technologies and innovative development for economic well-being, active settlement support, and sustainable and equitable growth.
