Last Saturday was just a horrible day for Heidelberg United, as they experienced an ignominious defeat against the league leaders with a score of 8-2.
Giorgos Katsakis’ team had started the match with the best of omens, taking the lead only in the 6th minute, but eventually left the field with eight goals against them. The home side equalized in the 10th minute through Manyluak Aguek, and then went on to take the lead in the 22nd minute through Yitayew Towns.
Three minutes later, Aguek scored for the second time, and Yusuf Ahmed made it 4-1 in the 34th minute, with Trajceski adding another goal just before halftime.
In the second half, the match continued in the same vein, with Stefan Zinni increasing the score to 6-1 in the 50th minute, and Aguek completing a hattrick in the 54th minute. The visitors temporarily reduced the lead in the 80th minute with Deion Nikolaidis, but their resistance stopped there as Zinni put the icing on the “Italian” cake by scoring for the eighth time in the 90th minute. This was an extremely heavy defeat for Alexandros, which will remain in the minds of their fans for a long time.
Southe Melbourne
The South Melbourne camp erupted with joy after their 1-0 victory in the derby against Bentleigh Greens. Esteban Quintas’ team fought hard and managed to stay close to the top of the table and leaders Avondale.
Joshua Wallen scored the winning goal for the hosts, taking advantage of the inertia of the “green” defence after a Maxi Mikkola corner.
The visitors tried to make it difficult for the home team, but the defensive function of the home team was at an impressive level, ensuring the score remained at 1-0 until the referee’s final whistle. Smiles were all around the Hellas camp as they celebrated their triumphant victory.
Northcote City
Northcote City pulled off an incredible victory against Pascoe Vale, one of the strongest teams in the NPL2 Championship this year. The impressive win propelled the “Greek” team into the top half of the table, giving fans hope for a bright future ahead.
Box Hill and Aris
Melbourne Victory’s youngsters proved to be bad visitors as they inflicted a heavy 1-3 defeat on Box Hill United at home in the NPL3 Championship. This was another negative result for Box Hill, who must quickly find their footing if they are to have a successful outcome in this year’s course of the tough NPL3 Championship.
Aris, the “Yellow and Black” team, won the Springvale Derby with a score of 3-0 against the “Serbians” of the White Eagles. This victory was very important for the “Greek” team, maintaining their position at the top of the standings in the Southeast Group of the State League.
