Speaking to Neos Kosmos, the President of the Greek Community of Melbourne, Bill Papastergiadis OAM said that he will not be a candidate in the upcoming Greek elections.

After months of rumours circulating in our community, Mr Papastergiadis confirmed that he had been approached by a Greek political party without disclosing which one.

“There had been interest from a political party but I will not be a candidate,” Papastergiadis told Neos Kosmos, adding that it was an honour for him that his name was discussed.

“At this stage I have other priorities.”

Meanwhile, another expatriate, Antonis Tsourdalakis announced that he might be included in the state election ticket of New Democracy.

“Yes, I am among the candidates,” he confirmed.

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis is inviting more expatriate women to join the ballot.

At the moment, Neos Kosmos has attained information that a young Greek woman from Australia will most likely be a candidate under New Democracy.

For the time being, the only certain candidate in the Greek elections is Kostas Stefanidis as announced by MERA25-Alliance for Rixi it was announced that among the candidates is the expatriate architect Kostas Stefanidis, an Australian resident. Mr Stephanides is, among other things, a member of the Board of Directors of the Greek Community of Melbourne.
