The Greek-Australian Society (GAS) welcomed over 30 student leaders from NUGAS Victoria and the Combined Universities Greek Association (CUGA) for a Societies Update in Sydney last Saturday.
GAS took advantage of the presence of dozens of current NUGAS students who were attending the annual CUGA Cruise, which was attended by over 450 students the night before.
The society organised an intimate mid-morning meal at the Andrew Boy Charlton Pool, located between Sydney’s Royal Botanic Garden and HMAS Kuttabul, to connect with the two umbrella organisations.

During the event, GAS reiterated its commitment to providing free cultural consultancy and advice to both groups. The society pledged to dedicate time and resources to support Greek-Australian student leaders in their current stewardship and to help with their respective transitions into professional and broader community life.
Speaking to the attendees, GAS Co-Founder George Mpliokas emphasised the importance of building trust among the organisations, stating: “We’re here to help us connect with one another and stay connected into the future. The most important thing we can build together is trust, and to trust one another, we have to get to know one another.”
NUGAS Co-Presidents James Panas and Billy Battista also addressed the morning’s attendees, expressing gratitude for their eagerness to engage in the conversation with CUGA and GAS, some of whom were understandably red-eyed after socializing the night before.
All three organisations committed to sharing continued Societies Updates, aligning with major annual calendar events and accounting for smooth transitions between changes in student leadership.
