The Monash Youth Committee (MYC) is motivated to put a major focus on culturally diverse and multi-faith activities as part of its direction under newly appointed chairperson Aristidis Tsoulakos.
Tsoulakos attained the position last month and he has ambitions of truly embracing the diversity of the Monash area.
“I look forward to serving as the chairperson till next April, I hope to drive more multicultural and faith initiatives for the young people and broader community of Monash feel connected,” Tsoulakos told Neos Kosmos.
The 22-year-old has been involved with the group for two years and is excited to now lead his eager team of roughly 15 members.
“It is great to see such a diverse range of passionate individuals all motivated to create a positive impact within the community of Monash. It brings me great joy to be able to guide and lead this group,” the MYC chairperson said.
The committee, whose membership is restricted exclusively to individuals aged 15-25, works to build connections between young people and Monash Council, providing the youth with a voice to contribute meaningfully to their community.
The MYC plays an active role in bringing a young perspective to council and community initiatives, helping promote the interests of the youth in the various activities undertaken.
“Projects have included advocacy work with MPs on various issues, financial literacy workshops to better prepare young people for the future charitable initiatives such as care packages during the Covid period, alongside various leadership training and first aid program offerings,” Tsoulakos said.
Tsoulakos was very pleased with the opportunities he has found to broaden his understanding of community issues and civic life in his first two years.
“It was good to gain experience and further build up my knowledge with different experiences and perspectives of numerous topics relevant to our community,” the MYC chairperson said.
He believes this time has prepared him well to lead the charge as the group strives to continue its positive work in bridging the gap between the youth and the wider community of Monash.
