The Oakleigh Community Festival is set to take place on Sunday, May 7 to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Greek Orthodox Community of Oakleigh and District, and the 40th anniversary of Oakleigh Grammar, the community’s flagship school.
The festival is also in honour of the opening of the school’s new N P Nikolakakis Centre for Academic Excellence. The event, supported by the Victorian government, is an open invitation for all to attend.
Proceedings will commence at noon and conclude at 5 pm, featuring free rides and children’s activities, food and market stalls, and live entertainment.
To kick off the festivities, Archbishop Makarios will preside over the Sunday liturgy at Sts Anargiri Church. The official opening of the Centre for Excellence will commence at noon, with Archbishop Makarios and Steve Dimopoulos, Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events and Minister for Creative Industries, in attendance.
The Archbishop will conduct a blessing, and Minister Dimopoulos will also be present to commemorate the occasion.
Chris Damatopoulos, Oakleigh Grammar Board Chairman, expressed that the event is “a way of giving back to our vibrant and supportive wider community.”
“Oakleigh Grammar is a coeducational institution that offers exceptional learning from Early Learning Centre through to Year 12. The school’s commitment is to build resilient lifelong learners and responsible global citizens, empowering young minds and putting students at the centre of everything they do. The school is founded on Orthodox Christian values and Hellenic traditions, and it boasts a multicultural environment where a zest for life is encouraged, good citizenship is celebrated, and academic scholarship is the mainstay.”
