This week, football fans are in for a real treat. Second-placed South Melbourne and the undefeated, league-leading Avondale are set to face off in a top-of-the-table derby.

Each matchday brings with it a unique opportunity to witness a thrilling match that’ll keep your heart pounding, and this week is no different. Don’t miss out on this exciting chance to be a part of the action and join the passionate fans in witnessing an epic battle between two of the top teams in the league.

The two “gladiators” come into the match in excellent condition, having both won their last games. Everything points to an exciting match, considering the standings of the two teams. The hosts have scored ten goals in their last two matches against Port Melbourne and Altona Magic, while the “Italians” last Saturday breezed past the Cannons with a 4 – 2 victory.

The Oakleigh team will attempt to reclaim their winning form this week when they host North Geelong on Friday night (5/5). This match could easily become a one-team show.

The home team is determined to bounce back from their 4-2 defeat to Avondale and will strive to put in a strong performance from the start of the match to ensure a successful evening with no unexpected setbacks.

This weekend, we will witness another Greek-Turkish match, this time in Port Melbourne where the Sharks will face Hume City.

Last Saturday, the “Greek” team fought to overcome the obstacle posed by the reborn Bentleigh Greens managing to steal the victory in the last minutes of the match. This week, their task won’t be much easier as their opponents have an extremely strong line-up, capable of achieving any result, whether they play at home or away.

Meanwhile, Heidelberg United has a tough task in their clash with Green Gully. Alexandros players who have been desperately searching for wins this season, will give their all on the field to secure a much-needed victory.

The Greens, who have been in great form since the start of the season, “destroyed” the Albanians of Thunders 4-2 in the last matchday and certainly view the match against United as an opportunity to send a message to their opponents that the fifth place they hold in the table is a result of the hard work they have been doing since the beginning of the season.

The coach of the “Yellow and Black”, George Katsakis seems as if he has not lost his faith in the capabilities of his players and believes that two or three good results in a row can put his team back on the… right path, the path of success.

NPL2

The “Greek” NPL2 teams will have difficult away missions this week. Third-placed Kingston City will face fourth-placed Manningham. Northcote’s Hercules play against Western United’s youngsters, while Brunswick City will travel to Pascoe Vale to face the competitive local side.

NPL3

Box Hill United sees this matchday as an opportunity to escape from the lower layers of the standings. The “Greek” club welcomes the somewhat unstable Donvale this year, aiming for a victory that will help them look to the future with a little more optimism.

The State Leagues

Yarraville welcomes Whittlesea this weekend, with the sole aim of jumping two places in the table. The two points separating the two teams gives a touch of derby to this North West Group 1 State League 1 match.

We have a real local derby in the Southeast group as Aris will welcome their Serbian neighbours, Melbourne Srbija. Malvern is facing Old Scotch looking for the three points that will keep them in the top half of the table.
