The Greek History and Culture Series continues at the Greek Centre with an event to commemorate the Pontian Genocide Memorial.
Organised by the Greek Community of Melbourne, the event will feature Dean Kalimniou, a prominent lawyer, poet, and short story writer within the Greek community.
During the seminar, Kalimniou will present a lecture titled ‘Kick Arse Women of Pontus: A Homage’, which pays tribute to the courageous women of Pontus, an intriguing region of the Greek world. The lecture aims to shed light on the remarkable women in Hellenism who have made significant contributions to Greek culture and society, many of whom hail from the periphery of the discourse.
Kalimniou, who has published several poetry collections in Greek and translated the works of many local Greek authors into English, aims to give the unsung heroines of Pontus the recognition they deserve.
The seminar is open to the public and will be held at the Mezzanine Level of The Greek Centre, located at 168 Lonsdale Street, Melbourne on Thursday, 18 May.
Attendees will have the opportunity to engage in discussions with the speaker after the lecture.
Entry is free, and more information can be obtained by contacting the Greek Community of Melbourne at +61 3 9662 2722 or by email at info@greekcommunity.com.au.
