Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios has withdrawn from the French Open after failing to recover in time for the tournament following knee surgery.

The French Tennis Federation confirmed his absence from Roland Garros, which starts May 28, on Tuesday.

Kyrgios missed the Australian Open earlier this year due to the knee injury.

He last played an official tournament in October and underwent surgery in January.

The Australian, however, remains keen to play at Wimbledon, where he reached his maiden grand slam final last year, according to media reports.

It’s still unclear whether defending champion Rafael Nadal will compete in Paris following a hip injury he suffered at the Australian Open.
