NSW residents who are dedicated to cultural diversity and engaged in their communities now have the opportunity to provide valuable advice to the NSW Government as Advisory Board members of Multicultural NSW. The Minister for Multiculturalism and Greek Australian, Steve Kamper, said that the Agency and its Advisory Board aim to foster “community harmony and social cohesion in one of the world’s most culturally diverse states.”

Kamper highlighted the significant diversity within the state, stating, “The latest Census shows us that one in two residents has a parent born overseas and one in four residents speaks a language other than English at home. I’m committed to ensuring that those diverse voices are heard within and across the Government.”

By becoming members of the Advisory Board, individuals can use their lived experiences to help shape policies that ensure future generations of NSW residents can fully enjoy the benefits of living in one of the world’s greatest multicultural states.

Currently, there are vacancies for one youth member aged 18-24, as well as several other positions on the Board. The nominations will close on Thursday, June 1 and successful candidates will serve part-time for a period of three years, leveraging their community connections, cross-cultural understanding, and personal experiences to amplify the voices of the wider community.

Chair of the Board, Nick Kaldas, APM, stressed the significance of young people sharing their aspirations alongside older generations throughout NSW. He emphasized that the Advisory Board plays a crucial role as a bridge between the community, Multicultural NSW, and the NSW Government.

Kaldas expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to work with passionate individuals across the state, stating, “As Advisory Board Chair, I’ve had the privilege to work alongside and learn from some of the most passionate members of our great state. I urge anyone who is committed to ensuring the diverse voices of our community are heard to apply and join me and the other members in continuing this important work.”

According to the Multicultural NSW Act 2000, the Advisory Board is constituted under the legislation and comprises a maximum of 15 part-time members appointed by the Governor of NSW.
