The Australian Government has announced the appointment of the Hon Justice Emilios Kyrou AO as a Judge of the Federal Court of Australia and as the President of the Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT). His appointment to the Federal Court commenced on June 8, and he officially assumes the role of AAT President on Friday, 9 June.
The decision to appoint Justice Kyrou is in line with the Australian Government’s plan to introduce a new administrative review body, replacing the existing AAT.
As President of the AAT, Justice Kyrou will play a crucial role in leading the tribunal through this significant reform. Furthermore, he is expected to serve as the inaugural president of the new administrative review body once it is established.
The appointment of Justice Kyrou was welcomed by the Australian Government in an announcement, which sees it as a milestone in the Australian legal landscape, and his role as both a Federal Court Judge and AAT President holds great importance for the country’s system of administrative review.
