Alison Duncan has been appointed as Australia’s next Ambassador to Greece by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Penny Wong.

Ms Duncan, a senior career officer with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, will be replacing outgoing Ambassador Arthur Spyrou.

In addition to her role in Greece, she will also be accredited to Bulgaria and Romania.

Wong expressed her gratitude to Ambassador Spyrou “for his contributions to advancing Australia’s interests in Greece, Bulgaria, and Romania since 2019.”

Wong also announced the appointment of five career public servants to key Australian diplomatic posts.

“Australia’s representatives overseas prosecute our national interests and through their diplomatic engagement help uphold the norms and rules that have underpinned decades of peace and prosperity,” she stated.

The following individuals have been chosen for these roles:

– Mr Todd Dias as Australia’s next Consul-General in Makassar, Indonesia.

– Ms Alison Duncan as Australia’s next Ambassador to Greece. Ms Duncan will also be accredited to Bulgaria and Romania.

– Mr Philip Green OAM as Australia’s next High Commissioner to India.

– Ms Hilary McGeachy as Australia’s first Consul-General in Bengaluru, India.

– Ms Alison Shea as Australia’s next Consul-General in Papeete, French Polynesia.
