A NSW doctor based in Bondi has once again attracted police attention after allegedly attacking a woman in Dover Heights which breached a recent domestic violence order.
According to The Daily Telegraph, last month John Balafas was convicted of assault and intimidation, with court documents saying he threatened the victim with an axe and slammed it down on a table, and also punched and smashed a glass on the victim’s legs.
At the time, Balafas was sentenced to an 18-month community correction order. The doctor has now been charged with a domestic violence related assault occasioning actual bodily harm, stalk or intimidate, and contravene prohibition or restriction in an apprehended domestic violence order. No pleas have been entered.
The 49-year-old fronted a judge on Tuesday, at Waverly Local Court, where he was granted bail on the condition he reports daily to the Waverly police station.
Balafas must now remain in North Bondi where he mustn’t enter, or go within 200m of an address in Dover Heights. He also cannot drink alcohol, or take drugs, unless prescribed by a doctor, and can be tested by police when reporting daily.
He is not to go near or contact the complainant or any prosecution witnesses, unless through a legal representative.
The new charges have been adjourned to be mentioned at Downing Centre Local court on July 5.
