A 75-year-old man was spotted dragging a dog tied with a wire to the back of his car in Zakynthos, Greece on Tuesday.
Another motorist filmed the incident and reported it to a local animal welfare group.
The group immediately initiated all legal procedures and identified the driver and car.
It is reported that other drivers signalled for the man to stop, and when he did, he got out and said that he tied the dog to the trunk and he fell out.
According to the animal welfare group, the man was arrested and charged €30,000, and when questioned, he claimed it was stray he found on the street, but in reality, it was his own dog.
The dog is now in the receiving care at the hands of the Zakynthos Life Care Group, who took to Facebook to share an update on the dog’s condition.
“The dog is old, has already been examined by a veterinarian, has slight burns on its paws and cannot stand for a long time. Further tests will be done and he receives the necessary treatment.”
“The dog was not taken well care [of]… he was found to have lots of fleas and ticks in his fur.
The group added that “the dog’s paws were washed and he had a new collar.”
This comes days after another man was arrested and fined in Zakynthos for dragging a goat with his car.
