On Sunday on July 2, in Cairns, the annual St. John’s Greek Festival drew thousands from all backgrounds.
According to a statement by the organisers “the festival served as an opportunity for cultural exchange, hospitality, and strengthening community bonds featuring a vibrant celebration of Greek traditions” and, included traditional Greek dances, food, and live music.
“St. John’s Greek Festival had successfully fostered a sense of unity and community pride,” Mary Lalios, one of the organisers, told Neos Kosmos.
“The event highlighted the diverse cultural fabric that enriches the Cairns community.”

Steven Andrews the Victorian principal of the Byzantine Music School of Australia met the Cretan dance group from Brisbane and “were warmly welcomed and guided by Anthony Katsanevas, President of the Cretan Association of Queensland.”
According to the statement, Father Alexander, the parish priest of St. John’s Church was also present “adding a touch of spiritual significance to the event.”
The St. John’s Greek Festival was organised by St. John’s Community Care, Mr Bakalis and his wife.
DJ Chris Tanos from Brisbane provided an musical backdrop for the festivities while Tsambikos Athanasas, the Honorary Secretary to the Honorary Consulate-General of Greece in Brisbane, was MC.
