Melbourne’s city centre has been shrouded in smoke as crews try to contain a large factory fire.
Twelve fire trucks were called to the blaze on Clarendon Street in Southbank just after 4pm on Thursday.
There is no threat to the public but emergency services say residents and motorists should avoid the area, with the street closed in both directions and trams diverted.
Fire Rescue Victoria says there are no reports of people inside the building but firefighters will do a thorough search when it’s safe to do so.
An advice message has also been issued, telling residents in nearby suburbs including Albert Park and Docklands that smoke will be visible in the area for some time.
