The Greek Student Film Festival is back, providing students with an exciting platform to express their creativity in the Greek language.

Presented in Sydney by the Greek Film Festival and the Greek Orthodox Community of New South Wales, this festival encourages group participation, boosts confidence, and aims to inspire future filmmakers.

Taking place on the last day of the 2023 Greek Film Festival, at Palace Norton Street, Leichhardt, the event invites students to submit their entries for this year’s competition centered around the theme: ‘Mirror’.

The festival asks aspiring filmmakers to delve deep into the realm beyond the looking glass and uncover what the reflection reveals about oneself; explore the secrets that lie within.

Participants are encouraged to interpret the theme with boundless creativity, with each short film not exceeding five minutes in length.

This year’s “signature item” to be included in each film is an hourglass, which can be incorporated into the story or serve as a background element.

Short films can be submitted in the following genres, with Greek as the main language:

  • Short Film Animation
  • Short Film Documentary
  • Short Fiction

The competition features two categories:

Primary School students and Secondary School students, with three prizes (1st, 2nd, and 3rd) awarded in each category.

Additionally, a new award, the “Best Short Film Audience Award,” will be introduced this year.

Entries will be evaluated based on criteria including creativity, the use of the Greek language, originality, and production values encompassing picture and sound quality.

The deadline for submissions is Wednesday, August 30, 2023.

Students and groups interested in participating are invited to express their interest by submitting the online form attached by Friday, August 18, 2023, to education@goc.com.au.
