Greek born Australian artist Paul Laspagis’ work is on display at Deakin University as of July 10, until August 9.
The work on display, while abstract, present two different elements: the human figure and landscape.
Laspagis has an affinity with the European expressive art, from Paul Cézanne to early modernists.
This style sees the exterior world transformed, with this artist using the Victorian bushland.
Laspagis works in the outer eastern suburbs, travelling to Yarra Valley to draw what he sees whilst in the bush and then returns to the studio to translate those drawings into artwork.
Born in Limnos, Greece in 1949, he migrated to Melbourne in 1957 where he studied at the National Gallery Art School before spending over a decade working in art education.
The former art teacher has had work exhibited in Australia and overseas, work that includes oil on canvas, drawings and print media.
Paul Laspagis: Metaphysical Order will be on show at the Deakin University Library, Burwood Campus.
Free entry and open to public weekdays 8am to 5pm and weekends 1pm to 5pm.
