The heatwave named ‘Cleon’ is expected to bring scorching temperatures to the western part of Greece until Wednesday before subsiding briefly due to the northerly summer breeze known as “meltemi” in the Aegean. The National Meteorological Service (EMY) forecasts that the intensity of the heat will be less severe in the eastern regions of the country for approximately three days, owing to winds of up to 7 Beaufort in the Aegean.

However, from Thursday onwards, temperatures will start rising again as the winds abate, leading to a new peak in heat affecting the entire country from Friday to Sunday. The cooling winds are expected to return next Monday.

Here are the maximum temperatures expected for this week:

From Monday to Wednesday, western Greece will experience peak temperatures of 38-40°C, reaching up to 41°C in the northwest Peloponnese. In the northern regions, temperatures will be around 35-38°C, possibly reaching 39°C in parts of Thrace. The east will see temperatures between 37-39°C, while the Aegean islands will experience temperatures of 36-38°C.

On Thursday, maximum temperatures will start to climb further, ranging from 40-42°C on the mainland and reaching as high as 43°C in certain locations. The Ionian islands will see temperatures of 39-41°C, and the Aegean islands can expect temperatures between 37-39°C.

Between Friday and Sunday, temperatures will soar even higher, with the maximum reaching 41-43°C on the mainland, and possibly reaching 44°C in certain areas.

Greece is expected to experience cooler weather again from next Monday, particularly in the north, with temperatures dropping by 2-3 degrees Celsius.
