The two Hellenic clubs are in store for a mighty contest as they go head-to-head in the final of the Dockerty Cup.

The match will take place on Friday, August 4, at Kingston Heath Soccer Complex, with the Cannons looking to avenge last year’s loss at the same stage.

The reigning NPL champions lost to Bentleigh 2-1 in the final last year, and they will be desperate not to fall short once again as they strive to win the title for the first time in their club’s history.

Heidelberg, meanwhile, is looking to repeat the feats of 2017, wherein they won the Cup in dramatic fashion with a 5-4 penalty shootout win against Bentleigh Greens.

Oakleigh qualified with a 3-1 victory in the semi-finals against Melbourne Knights, while “Alexandros” booked their ticket through a 5-0 drubbing of NPL Victoria 3 side Goulburn Valley Suns.

The pressure is on the Cannons as they come into the clash as favourites, given their strong league form which sees them sitting in third place, with the added stress of trying to make club history.

Heidelberg, in contrast, have had a mixed season thus far, sitting in tenth place with only five wins from their 21 matches played, giving them the underdog status for this encounter.

Nevertheless, the Cup is another competition entirely where league form has little impact when compared to the tension of knockout football.

The match will be livestreamed on NPL.TV and Football Victoria’s Facebook/YouTube, with the pre-game show to start at 6.45 p.m. ahead of a 7.30 pm kick-off.
